Narrowband UVB light treatment is a very successful treatment for those with vitiligo. Please follow the link to view a video explaining how effective Narrowband UVB light treatment can be. This follows a patient’s journey receiving light therapy for vitiligo as prescribed by the University of Massachusetts Dermatologists.

Also, specifically for Vitiligo, the University of Nottingham under the auspices of the NHS performed similar trials of home based Vitiligo treatment using Hand-Held devices. As a consequence they produced  a sequence of videos which show you exactly how a handheld UVB device was used to treat Vitiligo at home.

Whilst light therapy for vitiligo is one of the most popular forms of treatment, it is important to note that it cannot cure the condition. This type of vitiligo treatment at home must be performed frequently, between 2-3 times a week to maintain results, and caution must be taken as excessive use can come with some risks such as burning and an increased risk of skin cancer.

Some of the benefits of treating vitiligo with light therapy include:

  • Convenience – save time and money by treating your vitiligo at home, no need to travel to appointments.
  • Safe – UVB treatment for vitiligo is widely considered to be amongst the safest and most effective ways of reducing symptoms.
  • Investment – our range of UV lamps for vitiligo vary from handheld to full body so that you can find a solution, no matter what your budget. They are each built to last for many years, and so make a great investment for long-term treatment.

If you’re looking for an effective vitiligo treatment at home, our UVB lamp units offer between 50-90% efficacy in reducing the symptoms of vitiligo, so it’s worth getting in touch with one of our team to discuss your specific requirements.

Vitiligo effects around 1 in every 100 people in the UK, making it a fairly common condition. Despite this however, treatment for vitiligo is can only relieve symptoms, as the condition cannot be cured. Although vitiligo is a lifelong condition, the treatments that are out there aim to even out skin pigmentation to create a more even colouring - and light therapy for vitiligo has become a popular method of doing this.

Vitiligo is caused by low levels of pigmentation in the skin, known as melanin. Melanin is produced by melanocytes (skin cells), however in people with vitiligo, not enough melanocytes are present, and so white patches are left on the skin, and can even affect the pigmentation of hair. It is not known exactly why melanocytes disappear from specific areas of the skin, but it is believed to be an autoimmune disease similar to psoriasis.

Typically, vitiligo does not go away. In most cases white patches are permanent and can also sometimes spread to other parts of the body. However, in some cases, patches may go away on their own - but there is also a chance that they could return at a later date. With regular treatment, many sufferers are able to restore some colour to the skin on a temporary basis.

There are a few different treatment options for those suffering from vitiligo, and although any

treatment must be long-term to maintain results; some are more effective than others. Here at MBS,

we offer a leading home treatment for vitiligo with our extensive range of speciality UVB therapy

units.

UVB, or phototherapy, has proven to be an effective method of treatment for vitiligo, especially

when used in conjunction with other treatments and with regular use can help restore skin

pigmentation in vitiligo sufferers.

It is important to note here that whilst UVB therapy has a wealth  of benefits, it can also pose a risk if used incorrectly or excessively. Always be sure to speak with a

medical professional before opting for phototherapy at home.
